This post is not about me. It is about you the reader. There are a specific group of people I think of when I write, but that group may not be reading this. As such, I may need to alter my style or my style may be working for you and I would like to be able to think of you when I write too. I am going to throw out some archetypes of people that I think might find my writing valuable. If you don’t fit into those let me know. I would love to hear a little bit of your story and what you like about this blog in the comments.
You might wonder why knowing you, the reader, is important to me? It is important because good authors write to people, not to the masses or just because. They write with a certain person or persons in mind. This is a way you can contribute and take part in the writing process. Thank you for reading and continuing to read the blog and future book. I am almost through the first round of edits on the book just for an update.
Thanks for reading I will try to begin a discussion next week about fasting.
Archetypes:
Sam:
Sam is a man I respect a lot. He has raised his family and has worked hard, earnestly, fairly and Godly in the raising of his family. Sam is middle class, and due to his age and intelligence has risen to be a successful store manager. Sam is in a sense a ship captain. A man worthy of respect who runs a tight ship (or store) engendering loyalty and care amongst his crew. Having raised his children, Sam has more time than ever to read. He has always loved reading good writers who will take the challenge of answering why. As such, his favorite books are historical nonfictions, but these books lay out all the facts and allow him to see why someone, a commander or king, would make such a decision. Sam then looks deeper into what he can learn from these men of history.
John:
John like Sam loves to read, but he is raising young kids. he only reads things that can better shape and prepare him as a Christian father and husband. He doesn’t have time for a book filled with references to terms that he doesn’t have time to look up. He wants to know the why and what he can do about it. Unlike Sam, he doesn’t want to figure out what to do about things he wants the practicals fed to him because he doesn’t have time to sit and think. John wants the why because he always seeking to deepen his faith. He just may not be able to take the time to let that deeper why take hold without some immediate benefit to his Christianity.
Bill:
Unlike John and Sam, Bill is young and has time to begin to really explore his faith. Bill has not been a Christian for many years, but that does not sway him from his convictions or zeal for the Lord. Bill is always seeking to stand in the power of the Holy Spirit and has the courage and faith to lead men and women to Christ. Bill just lacks some depth due to inexperience. He knows he lacks depth but doesn’t necessarily know how or what questions to always ask. My work will hopefully answer questions or raise questions that will spur him into deeper theological thought without dampening his heart to win souls with Christ.
Maria:
Maria is the only woman (though I do keep my wife in mind when writing) I can think to write to, not because of neglect, but my own ignorance. I wish I knew more women at a deeper level like the male archetypes listed above. Perhaps ladies who read this blog will post their own archetype so that I can consider them better.
Maria though is a mechanical engineer with an MBA. Maria will not settle for the fluff of faith. She is too smart for that. It is important to her that she understands the deeper thoughts of Christianity because the light thoughts won’t cut it. She wants to know Jesus in a deeper and more meaningful way and act on his will for her life. Maria is the scariest person for me to write to because she will see any weak argument and call it out. She will know what is the truth and what is not. If Maria has read my work and compliments it then I will have certainly written well. If she cannot compliment me, then there is probably too much author and not enough God in my work.
Who are you writing to Dad?
